Description
2011 Ford Transit Connect XLT Premium Micro-Camper / 5-Passenger Van – $4,500 OBOWe’re the third owners of this 5-seater Transit Connect and have used it extensively as a city vehicle, gear hauler and weekend camping van (with a homemade bedframe set-up that can convert the vehicle in under 2 minutes from a passenger/cargo vehicle into a bed). It has more than 225,000 miles, visible cosmetic wear, quirky features, and a rough idle, but it has also been regularly maintained, and we have a folder documenting the oil changes, repairs, tire rotations and other (minimal) work done during our ownership. Nothing is wrong with the transmission or engine, at least that we are aware of.The standout features are the custom camper buildout and the amount of storage space: the rear converts into a completely flat bed that comfortably sleeps two adults, including someone 6'1". The bed folds away quickly so the van can still seat five people normally, making it unusually versatile for everyday driving, hauling gear and camping. The good:• Custom fold-down camper bed that sleeps two comfortably (can be sold with or without mattress and blackout curtains and front windshield sun shade)• Normal 5-passenger seating with all headrests and plenty of leg room• Excellent cargo space while still being easy to park in the city/ a compact space• Engine and transmission have been reliable during our ownership and we've never had any issues with either• Regular oil changes, tire rotations and maintenance• Folder of maintenance and repair records from our ownership• Recently looked over by our longtime mechanic• clean title• current registration/smog certificationMileage: 225,000+ milesThings to know:This is a 15-year-old, heavily used vehicle, not a cosmetically pristine van, that would probably benefit from you putting some time or money into keeping it running safely and smoothly for the years ahead.• It has a rough start. Our mechanic recently looked at it and did not consider it a safety or functionality issue, but we have not repaired it and you should not be surprised to hear a rumbling sound when you turn it on.• The power door locks no longer work properly, so locking all the doors requires a manual process that can sometimes take a few attempts.• Rear backup camera does not work.• I have not noticed the issue, but my husband recently noticed that the brakes feel somewhat soft. Our Berkeley mechanic believes it might benefit from a brake booster. (He offered to order the part used and fix it for somewhere between $1000 to $1200.)• Missing 3 of 4 hubcaps.• The radio antenna is broken off. It still plays local radio (and music or podcasts from a phone) but outside a major city, you can't always get tons of radio stations.• Scratches and cosmetic wear inside and out, including damage to the grille, wear on the steering wheel, stains on the front seats, and a small missing exterior plastic trim/panel piece. (see photos)• A bear once broke into the van in Tahoe and scratched some of the ceiling fabric. (It's not completely torn, just dirty, and makes for a fun story!)• Various other signs of 225,000+ miles of real use. We’ve priced it with those issues in mind. This isn’t a fancy camper van; it’s an affordable, very versatile work van with a genuinely useful buildout for sleeping, and documented maintenance during our ownership. It could be a great fit for someone looking for a budget camping van, climbing/surfing/outdoor vehicle, gear hauler or small work van.Located in SW Berkeley. Serious buyers only.
